The story behind Butterfly Garvey:

Jim and I named it "Butterfly Garvey" to include the family name and single it out from the other monarchs.

The story behind Butterfly Mary Alice:

Mary Alice was my mother's name. She missed a number of adventurous activities as a mother of three and a good wife, and so I can imagine her on this Monarch's adventure. I have had the opportunity to tag Monarch butterflies since she passed. She always loved to hear about everything I was involved in. She would have been thrilled to have a Monarch named for her.

The story behind Butterfly Maya:

Maya is named after my daughter who was born this summer! My mom taught me to love butterflies, to learn their Latin names, track their comings and goings each season, and respect them as an important part of the ecosystem. I hope to pass on the same love of our planet to my little girl, and have her know that when her grandma is no longer with us, we can always go butterfly hunting and remember her.

The story behind Butterfly Terri Lyn:

This was a gift to my wife, Terri Lyn, for Valentines Day so it is named for her.

The story behind Butterfly Hope:

I chose Hope as a name because I live in western Washington where I have never seen a monarch. I have native milkweed planted, hoping that someday I will see one.

The story behind Butterfly Malcolm!:

I am sponsoring the butterfly for my mom. Malcolm is named after her adorable Uncle Malcolm who gave her a butterfly net at age seven. She took the net to the beach to catch bullheads and to the lake to catch sponges but didn’t butterfly hunt with it until later in life.

The story behind Butterfly PokeyNose:

PokeyNose is a term of endearment in the family - and we're ALL family 🙂 Also, the name seems particularly applicable here since PokeyProboscis is a mouthful.

The story behind Butterfly King Felix:

Named after Felix Hernandez, a famous baseball player who pitched for the Seattle Mariners from 2005 thru 2019. His nickname is "King Felix". My husband and sons and grandsons are big baseball fans.
